Academic Advisory Council

The Academic Advisory Council works to advance religion-related scholarship by USC faculty and graduate students. The council supports a cadre of scholars at the forefront of their respective disciplines who are producing incisive research on religion. With funding support from the USC College Dean, the council oversees the CRCC signature seminar, annual working groups, organizes events and conferences, and provides small grants for research and academic presentations.

For the academic year 2009-10, the council's activities include:

  • A lecture and consultation on religion and globalization by Prof. Peggy Levitt
  • The CRCC Seminar entitled "Transnational Charisma" co-directed by Professors Janet Hoskins and Macarena Gomez-Barris
  • A working group entitled "Religion and Material Culture" chaired by Professors. Ann Marie Yasin and Anne Porter
  • A consultation on developing scholarly resources hosted by the Internet Missionary Photography Archive
  • Funding opportunities for USC graduate students and USC faculty

The council is chaired by Professor Jon Miller, director of research and includes senior and junior faculty from disciplines including: gender studies, art history, political science, communications, and anthropology.
