Getting Religion: Interdisciplinary Research Group
A new article by Nick Street, journalist in residence, examines the work of CRCC's Interdisciplinary Research Group, which has provided over $70,000 in grant funding since 2009. The article features research by Christian Hammons, Jane Iwamura, Mohamed Saleh, and Bradly Nabors.
Lisa Bitel, senior fellow and professor of history and religion, chaired the group in 2010-2011 and she will chair the working group on religion and material culture in the upcoming academic year. In the fall of 2011, Janet Hoskins, professor of anthropology, will become the new chair.
"In providing financial support for faculty members as well as advanced doctoral students... and by sponsoring annual seminars, working groups and lectures — the IRG serves as an incubator for incisive, interdisciplinary research on religious movements," writes Street.
