Image of Leimert Park Book Fair was set to re-unite Rev. Cecil Murray and Rodney King CRCC Senior Fellow Cecil Murray has appeared in an article in News in Black regarding the death of the late Rodney King. King, whose 1991 beating by LAPD sparked the Los Angeles riots, was found dead on Jun. 17 at the bottom of his swimming pool in Rialto, CA.

An excerpt from the article:

"Although they undoubtedly took different paths to prominence and notoriety, the Rev. Cecil ‘Chip” Murray and the late Rodney King were due to renew an acquaintance next weekend at the 6th Annual Leimert Park Village Book Fair.

The two men were set to talk about their respective books, “Twice Tested By Fire,” and “The Riot Within: My Journey from Rebellion to Redemption.

“We were on a panel just three weeks ago at the CAAM [the California African-American Museum],” Murray said. “There was also [civil rights lawyer] Connie Rice, and CAAM’s executive director Charmaine Jefferson. I got that he was a man of deep sincerity. He had re-invented himself, although he still struggled with alcohol and drugs.”

The book fair will take place on Jun. 30 behind the Vision Theater, located on 43rd St. and Degnan Ave. This year's event will focus on Black Art of the 1960's and 1970's.
