The Institute for Shared Heritage was developed by Lynn Swartz Dodd and Ran Boytner, who both saw a need to support the efforts of archaeologists and other colleagues (Palestinian, Israeli, American) who were seeking to build bridges of understanding and resources for peace. The Institute for Shared Heritage has sponsored academic and public lectures and conferences, books and article length publications, and perhaps most significantly, the Institute supports negotiation, dialogue and research, and education efforts related to the Israeli-Palestinian situation, including the Israeli-Palestinian Archaeology Working Group (IPAWG). The goal of the Institute for Shared Heritage is to develop the necessary framework to recognize, protect and preserve all cultural heritage in areas of conflict where territory is destined to become divided, as a necessary element in future sustainable coexistence.
