Annual Research Fellowships for Advanced Graduate Students

The Interdisciplinary Research Group (IRG) of the Center for Religion and Civic Culture (CRCC) will grant Research Fellowships of up to $5,000 each to advanced doctoral candidates at USC, to be used for dissertation research related to religion.

Funds are available for any legitimate research purpose, e.g. data collection, travel to archives or conferences, equipment justified by the research project, multimedia support, publication subvention, or expenses for research workshops or other scholarly events.

Candidates must be advanced doctoral students at USC (any school, any department.)

TO APPLY please submit by November 1, 2011:

  • A narrative proposal of no more than three double-spaced pages (total) explaining your project, its goals, its projected outcomes, and how it relates to, or advances study of, religion.
  • A CV of no more than two pages.
  • A budget of one page indicating how and when funds will be used.
  • A letter of support from your dissertation advisor.

Proposals will be reviewed by the IRG and Research Fellowships announced by December 1, 2011.  Funding will be available as of December 15, 2011 and must be used by November 30, 2012. 

All Fellows must agree (1) to present a report on completed research at an IRG-sponsored event in 2012; (2) submit a written report of completed research at the end of the funding period; and (3) submit a blog post related to funded research project (to be published on the CRCC website during the funding period.)
