After two years working in highland Guatemala and observing the impact of emigration on the region, Arpi Miller returned to Los Angeles to study immigration through UCLA’s Sociology Department. She received her PhD in 2013 with a dissertation focused on different forms of immigrant organizing, exploring how skills and connections translate across arenas. Her case study featured Salvadoran American activists in the Los Angeles area. Arpi now lives in Colorado with her husband and two children. She balances her time between freelance research projects and both secular and faith-based immigrant advocacy and accompaniment.
