Meara Sharma is a writer and journalist interested in the environment, religion, and cultural memory. Her work has appeared in the Washington Post, the New York Times, VICE, Matador, and several public radio shows and podcasts. She is also a senior nonfiction editor for Guernica, a magazine of global arts and politics. For several years, she was a producer for the NPR show On the Media, where she received a Gracie Award for her feature on journalists taken hostage in Syria, and a Front Page award for her series on poverty in America. Meara has also worked at WBUR Boston, organized conferences on art and social change, and researched reconciliation and performance in Rwanda. She is currently at work on projects about tigers, extreme empathy, and new forms of earth worship.
