Beautiful Gate: Envisioning Christian Faith in Los Angeles

Beautiful Gate defines itself as a movement, not a church or community. Located in Los Feliz and founded by missionaries Samuel and Priya Theophylus, Beautiful Gate is an example how some Christian groups are reimagining how to articulate their vision, form institutional relationships and contextualize their faith in Los Angeles.

Eschewing terms like progressive or conservative and leadership titles such as head pastor, Beautiful Gate’s “Lead Visionary” Samuel Theophylus describes their congregation as “a movement in dialogue” that hopes to both participate in and shape the broader culture.
