The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. found both support and opposition in Los Angeles. Najuma Smith-Pollard of the USC Cecil Murray Center for Community Engagement spoke with CBS-LA about the legacy of the civil right icon’s legacy in Los Angeles:
“To fight for one’s own freedom has a risk attached to it. Everyone’s not willing to take the risk of doing that work. He was well received in LA, but his message was still very controversial. And there was those that did not want him to come. But he came, and he made an impact, and it’s a legacy that we cannot forget.”
