As part of its coverage of the anniversary of the murder of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis, the New York Times wrote about the debate over funding for the police in Los Angeles. Budget cuts that the city made in response to the George Floyd protests have been reversed amid increased violence. The story quotes Najuma Smith-Pollard in response to the increases in funding:
The Rev. Najuma Smith-Pollard, who works at the University of Southern California training pastors in community organizing, said, “We have to continue to push the issue on the budget because the budget is a moral document.”
