AMCLI Program

AMCLI supports American Muslims in becoming authentic and effective leaders within their communities and beyond. 

Each cohort participates in leadership development and mentoring programming. The program may include a retreat, virtual meetings and individual work. Participants gain practical tools around leadership, community organizing, courageous conversation, storytelling and more.

Who should apply?

AMCLI participants should be interested in strengthening their leadership in their schools, communities and/or professional fields. 

The 2024 AMCLI cohort is open to young adults, either undergraduate or graduate students and recent graduates.

AMCLI accepts anyone who self-identifies as Muslim. AMCLI will accommodate the religious needs of participants while also ensuring that participation in religious practices are not imposed on others. AMCLI seeks to help you express your identity and values in a way that is authentic to you.

What are the benefits of participating in AMCLI?

AMCLI allows participants to find:

Is there a cost to participate in AMCLI? 

Programming costs and accommodations are provided (Friday night through Monday morning). Participants will receive a $50 gift card.

Participants are responsible for paying for their own transportation to and from the training location in Southern California.  

AMCLI is raising funds to provide travel scholarships. Donate today and underwrite one or more participants’ flights to AMCLI!

How do I apply?

Submit your application via this form by April 16, 2024.

Be sure to review the application requirements and gather your materials before you begin to fill out the form. We recommend typing your answers in a separate document in order to properly review and edit your answers. You can then transfer the answers by copying and pasting them into the form. Incomplete application will not be considered.

The application asks for personal and educational information, a short bio, photo of yourself and resume. 

The application includes four short essay responses (500 words max):

  • Please describe your community work, particularly noting your work with the Muslim community.  Please describe the primary organization through which you lead, work or volunteer. This should include a brief description of its mission and activities, your role and responsibilities, and accomplishments in the organization.
  • What problem that is impacting your Muslim community do you want to contribute to solving or improving? Give details about how you might do so.
  • Describe a challenge that you have faced and how you dealt with it. What did you learn?
  • What do you hope to learn through AMCLI? What personal leadership challenges do you want to address?
